Critical reception of Dexter’s final season deteriorated as its ending approached. All four critics in our complete episode-review panel gave the final four episodes lower median grades than the opening four, and the finale attracted especially harsh criticism.
The dataset joins 48 reviews by Matt Fowler at IGN, Nick Harley at Den of Geek, Yaysa Roque at Entertainment Fuse and Joshua Alston at A.V. Club. Each critic is compared with their own earlier grades.

Alston’s final four grades—D, D+, D and F—show the sharpest fall. His finale review describes a steep deterioration already underway. Removing the finale still leaves all four critics’ late-window medians below their opening-window medians, although Roque’s gap shrinks to just 0.1 points.
Reviews after the season ended reinforce that negative finish. Fowler’s whole-season assessment, published on 25 September 2013, awarded 5.5/10. In The Guardian, Becca Day-Preston criticised both the uneven final season and the ending’s treatment of its characters.
We keep those retrospective assessments separate from episode grades: a season score is not another score for the finale. The 48-review panel uses the grades currently displayed, including IGN’s revised finale score. Den of Geek’s premiere contains conflicting 3.5 and 4.0 values; using either leaves its downward pattern intact. Letter grades stay ordered letters, and numeric scales are not pooled.
